Bishop Bernard W. Schmitt, RIP



1928-2011

Today our Diocese learned that +Bernard W. Schmitt, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston from 1989-2004 passed away early this morning, about an hour after the Assumption of our Lady, and one day shy of his 83rd birthday.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.  And may his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.
