We have seen already, how Jesus has granted many favours through this great devotion which is fully approved by the Holy Church. Jesus also said to St. Faustina, 'woe to those who do not recognise the time of my visitation'. By the way, it is the Church who grants the plenary indulgence not St. Faustina. It is quite the opposite. Groups like Pius V and Pius X have made the Liturgy into somewhat of a golden calf, considering it to be far more valuable to humanity than communion with the See of Peter, in which rests the Divine Authority to legislate all matters of the Church which are not of Divine or Natural law--including the Sacred Rites.

Was the liturgical reform of 1969 poorly timed, poorly executed, or both? I would say yes. (Incidentally, check out my talk "Antinomianism and the Sacred Rites".) But they are approved for use by the Supreme Pontiff, the legitimate Successor to St. Peter--on whose rock of Faith the Church was built--the Vicar of Christ on earth. What is professed (albeit in a somewhat anemic fashion) in the Novus Ordo liturgy is the same orthodox Faith that was handed on to the Apostles by Christ Jesus Himself.

The Novus Ordo is a liturgical rite, the same as is the Tridentine Mass, the Sarum Rite, the Divine Liturgy of John Chrysostom, etc. Liturgy is not religion. And those who confuse that issue (such as Pius V and Pius X societies) are rarely in communion with the True Church, further illustrating the fallacy that they proclaim: that somehow ritual practices from an arbitrary time period are more salvific than the Faith which must necessarily underly them.

Do not be deceived. As my writings indicate, I have little love for the Novus Ordo. But, be that as it may, it is a legitimate, licit, and valid liturgical Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, and must be regarded as such by all Catholics--even those who would rather die a painful death than attend one by choice.Pastor Montanushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00032796365729658542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797563684211847362.post-52196575811971409972012-02-19T22:49:43.103-05:002012-02-19T22:49:43.103-05:00I don't disagree with that at all, Dad29. What I'm actually saying is that so many Romans completely overlook the inherent beauty of the Roman Rite done well, and immediately flock to practices foreign to our own Rite, thinking that because they seem "archaic" or somehow "more ancient" they must be superior. The Roman Rite not only provides for "smells and bells"...it demands them, if the Rite is to be experienced as it ought to be. But we must refrain from altering our own Rite in favor of those things which are foreign--and in some cases, contrary--to the Roman Rite.Pastor Montanushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00032796365729658542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797563684211847362.post-60111354240787159792012-02-19T22:40:29.809-05:002012-02-19T22:40:29.809-05:00So often, we gloss over the Roman Rite and become ...So often, we gloss over the Roman Rite and become entranced by the bells and smoke and chants of other rites, and we seek to integrate them (unnecessarily and illicitly) into our own rites as a way of “dressing them up.”

Seems to me that the Roman Rite specifically provides for 'smells and bells' in several instances. Chesterton noted that a would-be convert reaches a point where nothing the enemies of The Church can say against Her will have the least effect, but one wrong word from a Catholic can do a great deal of damage. That is what all the pro/anti Novus Ordo debate does to me. I do not wish to go on making wrong decisions in life. Am I wrong to consider the Novus Ordo a seperate religion? What do you think of the Pius V & Pius X societies?

Thank you for your consideration.Carlos Carrascohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16481652611499137516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797563684211847362.post-75178939649145517112012-02-17T11:54:01.187-05:002012-02-17T11:54:01.187-05:00I just found your blog...great post...I think I wi...I just found your blog...great post...I think I will repost it... In my own experience this is one of the greatest areas of misunderstanding and not only among laity but among priests and religious. Priests feel a sense that they are "on stage" and that they need "to perform". I remember reading an article by a priest written after he celebrated the Extraordinary Form for the first time. He entitled it "My Second First Mass" and he spoke about being freed from the sense of having to perform. Your article is truly pastoral and gives much food for thought. I think you've more or less nailed it, the enrichment isn't in making the NO look like a TLM (that should be a shallow enrichment indeed), the enrichment occurs via the intangibles of worship - the tone, spiritual disposition, the inner orientation of those saying/assisting at the mass. I suppose in an ideal world, catechesis and preaching gives birth to a spiritual renewal which naturally lends itself toward that inner orientation toward the Lord expressed in the concrete so beautifully by traditional liturgy.Iacobushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03213635300203297466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797563684211847362.post-90343822172776428352012-01-28T10:22:30.929-05:002012-01-28T10:22:30.929-05:00Father, this was a wonderful talk! And remember...all you ...Amen to all that, Father! And remember...all you parents out there: offer your own children to the Lord. Praying for vocations is laudable and necessary, but one is, in a certain sense, praying that the Almighty will choose other people's children. It is another matter to say, "Lord, take my son, take my daughter. Let him become a holy priest; let her become a holy religious sister." Read about the mothers of Lu Monferrato in Italy, and the 323 priests and religious who were called from this tiny village thanks to their prayers: http://spiritualmotherhoodforpriests.blogspot.com/2009/06/in-imitation-of-mothers-of-lu.htmlCasa Santa Lidiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10347104895691697889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7797563684211847362.post-630828356553259572011-12-26T21:42:32.425-05:002011-12-26T21:42:32.425-05:00AMEN!!!! Never heard that before!

This reminds me of another question I've never had answered: Why in the new order is it thought to be so important to celebrate the "liturgy of the Word" from the sedilia rather than the altar, as in the TLM? Even amongst his mini-rants against some of ways in which the NO has been said, (at that time) Card. Ratzinger in his "The Spirit of the Liturgy" remarks that the shift to the sedilia was an important one. Why?
